Improving Quality of Life through MudLib

There have been quite a few epic length posts in the game of late so maybe it's time to bring some of that love back to the devblog. The staff has been focused in a couple updates to improving quality of life.

One Big Happy Bestiary

We have a lot of options on the table with regard to who you can be when playing the game. We've had a lot of IDEA reps over the years about everything from unicorn horns to well, you know, the other things.

Joking aside - the staff sat down and took two weekends to review every single mortal and remortal option available. We decided that it was time to do away with some old restrictions. You might notice, if you are a winged race, that you may suddenly have shoulders! You might also notice that you can actually eat now even if you're not required! It's some of the little things like this that make a difference in daily play.

We also looked over some of the general configuration for things like natural attacks, stat gains, available slots, and the capacity to learn spells and skills. Log in and check to see if your character suddenly has new capabilities!

About Checking Your Character

Wxyz has gone on a quest over the past year to update some of the most commonly used commands. How many commands you ask?

  • eq gained bulk and list arguments
  • slots gained compare x and compare x and y arguments
  • keep gained invert and remove x arguments
  • slayer sorting now ignores case
  • finger now shows a proper sort for slayers ignoring case
  • stop now has colour codes to mimic interrupts
  • stop also gained hammertime and in the name of love as arguments
  • tell gained -time and -echo arguments
  • condition no longer clears the screen from command output
  • condition now shows the correct information in its output
  • screenclear is a new command to replace what was removed in condition
  • scan is fixed so the highbie advantage will overrule low training
  • home would not reset the timer if some other factor blocked it

And there's more to come...

Components

Sometimes using components felt a lot like being that poor soul in the classic Gary Larson cartoon "Midvale School for the Gifted". Why go for the 8 full waterskins in that clutch brew healing drink save when you can just grab the empty one and get the "you do not have a X" message and let your front row die a horrible death?

Thanks to Elthan pointing it out during a conversation about something else entirely, this is no longer the case for any spell that uses consumable components that stack. Know something else that takes the Gifted out of Gifted One? Send in a bug report to Service Desk and let the staff know!
